Music Ministry

Music at St. Paul’s is comprised of people who use their talents to glorify God in our worship services. We strive for excellence in all aspects of our worship. The members of each of our groups are creative and friendly people who love to fellowship together. In addition to being together for rehearsals, they also get together for seasonal dinners and celebrations.

Choir

Adult Choir rehearses Wednesdays at

6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the choir room.

Our adult choir faithfully offers a variety of choral anthems, ranging from Gregorian chants to the most recent choral masterworks. Each year during Advent and Holy Week this group performs a major choral work with professional soloists and chamber orchestra accompaniment as part of our worship service. In addition to rehearsing the music for each Sunday, members enjoy the benefit of learning the history of the music they sing as well as the liturgy in which they participate.

Choral Scholars

This auditioned ensemble are students from Blinn College and they supplement our adult choir. Most of the students are music majors and as part of our commitment to their education, they receive additional training in music theory, music history, vocal techniques, and church history as part of their rehearsals; this group also goes on field trips to professional concerts in our area.

Handbells

Handbell Choir rehearses Wednesdays at

5:15 – 6:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary balcony.

Our dedicated five-octave Handbell Choir performs about once-a-month at both the 8:00 and the 10:30 services.  The beauty and rhythm of the varying tones of bells highlights many of our favorite hymns, adding depth and character, as well as performing a wide-variety of concert-quality selections to the glory of God.

Praise Team

The Praise and Worship Team rehearses just prior to the monthly Praise and Worship Service and on the Thursday before the last Sunday of the month at 6pm. The Praise Team leads worship one Sunday a month at the 10:30 am worship service.

This group of vocalists and instrumentalists leads our monthly Praise and Worship Services. They learn new contemporary Christian songs as well as reprise beloved favorites.

Choral Vespers

Choral Vespers is a candlelight worship experience of prayers, chant, readings, hymns, anthems and incense led by the St. Paul’s Vespers Choir. Our Choral Vespers is designed to be a nourishing, restorative, contemplative beginning to your new week.

Vespers has been celebrated since the 2nd century when Christians gathered in the evenings for liturgical reunions. We follow the format that was established in the 6th century, which is simple, beautiful, and filled with profound mystery. Each of these Office of Vespers is to help to lead you into that “thin place” in which you can perceive something of heaven itself.
